Gotta love January and its resolutions. We make these sweeping statements about how we’re going to start eating clean, we’re gonna save more money, we’re gonna this, and that, and the other. The intentions are good, the goals are grand, and now here we sit, wondering how we’re going to be successful.
Personally, I want to lose 20 pounds and get back into a regular yoga practice. Has that happened yet, in this third week of January? No. Will I beat myself up about it? Likely. But in the spirit of practicing self-love, I’m going to list a few steps I’ve taken towards accomplishing those goals. They may be baby steps, but it’s all about making the shifts and building on the habits, right? Ok, so here goes…
- I purchased a container of Bragg’s Nutritional Yeast and combined it with equal parts parmesan cheese. It’s surprisingly tasty, and adds a ton of B vitamins to anything it’s sprinkled on. Easy nutritional win for the whole family!
- I’ve made a concerted effort to restructure my evening after the kids go to bed. I’m typically a blob once they go down, but I feel like that’s precious personal quality time that could be better spent. My evening goals now include washing my face, meditating/deep breathing to unwind, and some stretching and yoga. So far I’ve been washing my face. 🙂
- I was gifted a beautiful gluten-free sourdough starter two Fridays ago. She’s made of chickpea flour, so we named her Chickie. Not only have I kept her alive, but I’ve been dabbling with recipes to use up the discard. So far, we made Chickie english muffins, Chickie pancakes, and Chickie biscuits. The biscuits were a bust, so we fed the birds with them, but everything else was great! Next up, sourdough bread! Wish me luck!
- Coffee. Oh, coffee. What would I do without you? By the end of the holidays, I was drinking anywhere from 12-15 cups a day. Way too much, I know, but it’s my “go-to” when I’m tired, cold, stressed, whatever. It always brings comfort, and I don’t really want to give up the habit. My compromise? I still make a full pot in the morning, but I only use enough grounds for 1/2 the pot. I still get to drink my thermoses all day, but they’re crazy diluted. So far, I’ve managed to maintain my level of productivity and keep smiling. Personality in a mug!
It’s all about the habits. I need to keep reminding myself, so that I can stay motivated and continue building upon them. Let’s keep the energy flowing, we’re all on this learning journey together! Tell me, what shifts have you made that make you happy? What are your latest baby steps? xo
