May is Ragnar Cape Cod season! Starting in Hull and finishing in Provincetown the course treats you to two hundred-ish miles of scenic terrain. Like all Ragnars’ you can expect a well-organized race, complete with awesome volunteers, swanky medals and a safe and well-planned route to get you to the finish line.
Ragnar Cape Cod 2016 was an awesome experience. Major shout-out to my teammates on Shut Yarmouth and Run and my awesome van mates in Van #1! Big props to Captain Jac who flawlessly pulled the details together, and who went above and beyond to make this year a pleasurable experience!
If I had to pick my favorite race, it would be Ragnar. I love the combination of individualized running with the camaraderie of a team. Ragnars challenge you in a way other races are not able to. Between the navigating, lack of sleep, porta potties, and smell of stinky socks, the race is a 29-ish hour battle of mental and physical fortitude.
I wear the title of Ragnarian proudly! However, during the race my teammates brainstormed some ways to improve Ragnar. Ways to make a BANGIN’ race even better.
- Live runner tracking!
Many marathons and half marathons allow runners to register for live tracking before race day. The live tracking option allows friends and family to follow your progress and to know when you have completed the race. This would be a fabulous addition to Ragnar. Not only would it allow friends and family to track your progress, it would provide your teammates with accurate information and make exchange points more efficient.
- More accurate one mile markers
When is one mile not really one mile? When the one-mile-to-go marker is not accurate! The one-mile-to-go marker is an iconic Ragnar image all racers look forward to seeing…let’s make sure they are accurately placed within one mile of the leg’s finish. Thank you!
- One-mile-to-go swag
Since it is such an iconic Ragnar image, let’s see some one-mile-to-go swag. A desk paperweight…absolutely! A tee shirt, matching socks and a hoodie…yes please! Since running my first Ragnar, one-mile-to-go has taken on an entirely different meaning in my life. I could use a one-mile-to-go button. Boom! That report for work is almost finished, one-mile-to-go! You have almost potty trained your toddler…stick with it, one-mile-to-go. The swag opportunities are never-ending!
- Unique Swag
Ragnar is a race unlike any other, the swag bags should be as well! I’ll pass on the granola/protein bar and water. I’d rather see…more tattoos, glow bracelets, and trucker hats!
- Bring back the free beer!
You haven’t slept in almost thirty hours, you smell, your feet hurt and your hair looks awful. Don’t make me pay $4 for my finish-line beer. BRING BACK THE FREE BEER. Enough Said.
