Now that I have finally crossed over the line on the Body Mass Index (BMI) scale from “overweight” to “normal”, this is the point where I need to pay the most attention to my actions. Many people have historically reverted back to old eating habits at the point of reaching their desirable weight, leading them to gain it all back. I certainly do not want this to happen to me as I have worked very hard over the past 8 years to get where I am today.
My plan is very simple. I will continue to do what I have done for the past 8 years. For those who fear I will start eating again, leading to me gaining the 85 pounds back, please fear not! I love my body too much now; I love the quality of food I cook; and I love the way it feels to be a physically fit person to stop at this point! I also love how it feels to be able to wear different styles of clothing.
For those who fear I may lose too much weight, please understand my weight may fluctuate a few pounds down. It is important to note that my weight is at the border of “normal” and “overweight” on the BMI scale. The upper range of “normal” is 24.9 and my BMI is 24.1. Even though I am ecstatic about my weight, I continue to have goals to reduce my body-fat percentage, which may cause a slight decrease on the scale.
Regarding nutrition, I now crave foods that make my body feel nourished, as opposed to foods that simply taste good. My husband and I were recently on vacation for 9 days and had foods my body was simply not used to eating. This took a huge toll on my digestive system. As soon as I got home, I immediately started cooking with fresh vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains; while ensuring I drank enough water. I also cleansed my system by drinking green tea with fresh lemon wedges throughout the day and daily ACV tonics. In addition, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a Vitamix Blender and I am extremely excited to elevate my cuisine and eating regimen with this very high rated appliance!
Regarding physical fitness, exercise is so etched into my routine, it is habit for me to complete an intensive workout on most days before I go to work. On the morning of my first day back to work after vacation, even though I was extremely exhausted, I forced myself to complete an intensive 45-minute workout DVD with weights. When the workout was over, I was so happy I did it because it gave me enough energy to have a successful first day back to work. In addition, it feels great to be able to climb countless flights of stairs without my losing my breath.
I am going to continue my lifetime commitment to eating well while exercising regularly; the same message I have consistently given since blogging for Runitlikeamom. This lifestyle change is the best thing that has happened to me as it has led me to feeling the best I have ever physically and emotionally felt in my entire life. I am definitely a different person now compared to 8 years ago! I make my health and wellness a priority. With that said, I feel it is important to remember where I was when I started my journey so I can work that much harder to keep myself moving in the right direction in all aspects of my life!
