This Christmas I’ve decided to go in a new gift-giving direction. Everyone on my list is getting the same thing! No, they are not all getting the exact same item, but – spoiler alert!- everyone on my list is getting a photo gift! Before you yawn- or marvel at my “originality”- let me elaborate.
In the past, I have over-spent on thoughtful and/or fun presents for family and friends, only to have the “high” of giving swiftly over-ridden by the “low” of post-holiday lulls. It’s thrilling to give the fancy sweater or badass base layer (well, maybe not thrilling, but rather fun and in theory fulfilling) but the post-holiday hangover usually lingers longer than the excitement over giving (or getting) another new turtleneck! That’s precisely why I’ve decided to make this year different! By making all my gifts the same- yet unique! Each and every photo gift has been created with a curator’s eye for the recipient’s preferences. Without giving too much away- about what I’ll be giving away this holiday season– let me say this: I am 100% in favor of DIYing presents! And, it’s not too late for you to do-it-yourself too if this inspires you! There are a lot of options!
I used Snapfish- but you may decide you prefer Shutterfly or Mixbook or another site- to assemble photo gifts customized for each of my family members. Snapfish is very user-friendly, with plenty of design templates, embellishments, and other features that make creating the gift intuitive and even easy. You can make books, ornaments, coffee mugs, wall calendars, canvas prints, even a mouse pad.
You can get creative and use your favorite race day pictures, birthday party pictures, family portraits- all of the above and more- instead of letting those special shots lay dormant among an ever-expanding array of photos accumulating in the archives of your computer. You can’t go wrong with photo gifts; they are the gifts that continue to give (the smiles, the memories, the love) over time.
