This blogpost was written within the comforts of my yoga pants. Its soft and stretchy fabric, make me feel at ease when I do my morning errands. Walking my son to school, going to the store or grabbing my first cup of joe are all part of my daily ritual, but as super moms-on-the-go, when should we draw the line on wearing our exercise gear?
I had been in a yoga-pant slump during the summer months, this year. I naturally changed into my active wear to go do my workouts and yoga classes, but then, to save time, I began to put on the comfy clothes to start off my day. Unfortunately, this time saving thought, was my downfall. I began to lounge around the house more, because I didn’t feel motivated. I missed a workout here and there and my running routine became nonexistent. It was like I was too comfortable to do anything active, in my active wear?! Ugh, I was in a rut!
Several weeks ago, I was browsing through my Facebook feed when I came across a hilarious YouTube skit on the subject of the woman workout gear phenomenon and after my laughter had died down, its message got me thinking. Are we all getting a little too comfortable in our yoga pants? From kid birthday parties to restaurants, I started to notice that us women were getting attached to our workout clothes! Whether or not they had just come from an hour-long kick-boxing class or a sun salutation session, remains a mystery. But when the majority of us are wearing our exercise gear on a Friday evening, I can’t stop but think of Kerri Bradshaw fainting in her Manolo Blahniks.
So, how do we stop the madness? Here are some of the things I recently did to go from feeling frumpy to fabulous!
I cleaned out my closet:
Boy, was that space an eyesore!
I didn’t feel like going into my closet, because it was such a mess, (hence maybe the reason why I couldn’t find anything to wear) so I did a good sweep through that only took me an hour to complete.
Much better! Now I can view most of my wardrobe at a glance. Wow, I forgot about this rockin’ knitted top…
I organized my shoes:
I put all my heels and boots in their proper place. I’m all jazzed up to match them with some outfits! Hmm, I have a meeting today – I think I will wear these!
I’m now exercising…in my exercise gear:
I have been making the effort to bridge the gap between my yoga pants and my skinny jeans. Before and after my workout, I change. I now feel that there is a little mission to wearing the clothes that I am in. No more blurring the lines. From now on, I will be setting boundaries on what I wear and when I where it. And here is another thing I have noticed lately – my outfits are fitting better on me (fist pump).
I have a reason to go shopping:
I, now, have a nice organized closet. My shoes are all lined up in a row, waiting to be worn. And the Goodwill and recycled boxes are filled with wearables to donate. I think it’s time to reward myself with a nice shopping trip, wouldn’t you agree? I can clearly see gaps in my collection and there is my wedding anniversary coming up this weekend that would require an outfit…or two, to choose from. So, while I pondered on that thought, I went out and got a nice pair of Adidas trail running shoes for my Thursday group run.
