T’was the night before my first half
when all through the beach house,
not a child was talking, not even Patty’s spouse.
The bubbly had been drank by the runners with care,
in hopes the morning would soon be there.
The children were all snuggled up into their beds,
while visions of athletes danced in their heads.
When up in my guest room I heard such a clatter,
the sound of ladies and giggles and chatter!
I laid in my bed, all frightened to hell.
The moon was covered with rain clouds that gave me dread of the next day ahead.
When what to my wondering eyes would appear,
my fellow runners with smiles and cheer!
I knew in a moment I was gonna be sick!
I had to hustle cause I knew the clock was going to tick!
More rapid than eagles the visions they flew,
On Sarah, On Patty, On Emily and Meg!
On runners that run, but I don’t know their names!
We met with our obstacles and mounted to the streets!
Then in a twinkling I heard on the pavement,
the pounding and striking of each big and little foot.
I drew in my head the music that was pumping,
down the street our herd came with a bound,
Our clothes all neon with body odor and sweat,
Our eyes focused, our noses dripped,
Laying a finger aside of my nose,
I shot out a snot rocket that crossed the road!
I counted the miles as they went by,
five more to go then this victory is mine.
Ten mile “selfie” showed my smile,
but after the corner my body died for a while.
I pushed and fought back to the voices in my head,
ON MEGGIE, YOU CRAZY BITCH! YOU GOT THIS, YOU GIVE A SHIT, NOW MOVE YOUR ASS- YOU’RE NOT A WHIMP!
I rounded the corner to victory lane, I looked straight ahead and then I heard them exclaim,
GO MEGGIE, YOU GOT THIS, IT’S RIGHT UP THERE!!
My friends waited for me with bliss and cheers
to support in my journey and be there for my celebrating beers!
Okay so I can’t continue to rhyme, you get the point! I ran my first half and no it wasn’t easy! I feel so elated to have had this chance!
I couldn’t have done this without the people who love me in my life! I don’t need to name you- you know who you are!
So when is our next half?
Come on and join me at the starting line!
