We all know how important it is to stay adequately hydrated, especially during the warm summer months. Iced tea and lemonade are a nice treat on a hot summer day but drinking plenty of water is the best way to stay hydrated. Plain water will do the trick, but I find that I drink more water more often if it has a bit of flavor. I don’t care for the flavored waters sold in the store which can have unnecessary additives. My go-to hydration choice has always been ice water with lemon, but recently I decided to try something new.
I picked up a cold beverage dispenser and I have been experimenting, making my own summer infused water for our whole family to try and enjoy.
There are tons of infused water recipes available online using fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. In addition to lemon, I really enjoy cucumber infused water. I also tried grapefruit rosemary infused water this past weekend. It was surprisingly refreshing!
If you haven’t already purchased a cold drink dispenser, now is the time! Some of them come with a cute ceramic or metal stand and others stand alone. You can find them nearly anywhere from Target and Ocean State Job Lot to Sur La Table and Pottery Barn. They are made in both glass and plastic/acrylic. You can also make single servings of infused water to take with you on the go in mason jars or a similar small beverage container.
You will likely need to try out different things to see what you like best and determine how much fruit/herbs to add, how long to let the water sit before enjoying, and what type of container works best for you. I find that generally, it takes at least 2 hours for the flavors to infuse but you may prefer to wait longer if you like a stronger flavor.
