This past month, not only was I lucky enough to have a week-long family vacation in Disney, but 2 weeks later, my husband and I had a 4-day adult vacation in New Orleans with some friends. I had an amazing time during both trips. I have to be honest – I often allowed myself to enjoy decadent meals and fancy cocktails, which unfortunately resulted in me gaining 10 pounds during the month of April. Thank goodness I walked for miles during both vacations or else I would have gained 15 or 20 pounds. When I blogged over a year ago about returning from vacation without gaining any weight, I figured I owed it to myself and everyone else to admit the truth about this slip-up before it turns into a major problem.

During the years I was a plus-size woman, I used to gain weight on every vacation, return home, and continue to give myself permission to skip workouts and eat anything I wanted. If I had gained weight anyway, what difference would a few more pounds make? For months, I continued to overeat until I could no longer fit into my clothes without elastic waist bands. Once my size 16 jeans no longer fit, I put myself on a “diet” so I could lose enough weight to fit back into them.
Currently, I decided to respond to this mishap in a different way than ever before in my life. I was not going to allow these 10 pounds to ruin the last 7 years of progress I made in my journey. As I traveled home, I looked forward to getting myself back on track by eating healthy food and pushing myself in my workouts. I was not worried because I knew exactly what needed to be done in the areas of nutrition, exercise, and hydration / cleansing. As such, we made the following plans:
- Nutrition: The day we returned home, my husband went to the grocery store and stocked up on lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, and high-fiber carbohydrates. The night before we returned to work, he made grilled chicken to prepare for our dinners later in the week. On our first day back to work, we packed up all our healthy foods as we typically do. Within a couple of days, my body started to feel better.
- Exercise: In the last 10 days I have been home, I completed 7 intensive workouts, most of them being from the T25 series. Surprisingly, I was able to do each of these workouts more effectively than ever before. I enjoyed the faint muscle soreness I felt the day following these workouts. I also am starting to consider purchasing the Focus T25 Gamma series.
- Hydration / cleansing: In addition to water I drink in the morning and evening, I added 6 cups of unsweetened green tea throughout the day. The antioxidants in the green tea help curb my appetite, hydrate my body, and cleanse my system. My husband and I also started drinking my apple cider vinegar tonics again.
I have been home for about a week and a half and lost 5 pounds so far. My body feels great because I am kicking ass during my workouts. I am not putting pressure on myself because I know the weight will come back off eventually. The best part of this experience is knowing I am doing all of the right things. Most importantly, I am not letting myself down. This is a huge moment of growth for me, and I am so thankful! 🙂
