When I was asked to become apart of the RunItlikeamom family, one of my first writing assignments was to write about how I balance family, and work. As a Mom I am always confronted with the dilemma of where to set my boundaries. What is too much, and what is not enough? Frankly, a lot of these boundaries are based on the day, time, or even mine or my families mental and physical being. In order for me to be the best mom I can be, I need to put myself first sometimes. Which has never been a strength of mine. Recently, I have stepped up my juggling act by adding another ball, a publication. Who knows what’s next? Working two jobs on top of reporting for Mommy duty can be daunting. Sometimes I long for the days where I can go to bed without bringing my Macbook, or better yet sleep in maybe a half hour if I’m lucky.
The thing is, I think we are all faced with this dilemma as a Mom in numerous ways. To overcome this overwhelming feeling of zero gravity, I find ways to ground myself back down on earth. Getting back to Lindsay I like to call it. For me having a regroup with my family and re-prioritizing what is important to us is essential. Whether it’s a challenge of CJs, or Fins terrific two’s (can you feel my sarcasm there), we all have a responsibility to our family, to our work, our friends, and most importantly to ourselves.
Eventually something has to give. Work, family, and how to make you happy…finding the right balance for you and your family is the key to living a content life. Boy am I a work in progress, but learning the balancing act and knowing I’m not alone in the craze is quite comforting. What helps you to keep the balance? How do you juggle work and family?
