A good friend recently brought the website GoFundMe to my attention. While she was enjoying Easter day with her cousin Katie, Katie’s house was burning down. To help with the devastating aftermath, she created a GoFundMe page to collect donations and organize the delivery of any physical goods to support her cousin and her husband and their two-year-old little girl. The bright light in all of this is that in just a matter of days, they have raised over $1,600. It’s certainly not enough, but it is an amazing start.
And this got me thinking of all the great causes out there in need of some support. All you have to do is go to the main page of GoFundMe and you will see people asking for help with things like medical bills, small businesses, honeymoon trips, and sports teams. What I love even more about this site is you can go to the “Near Me Tab” to find causes in your local area. How great is that?!
So what do we do with this, other than feel sad or inspired by the stories you’re reading about? Take action! If you don’t feel like you’re in a position to give monetarily right now, why not pick something to donate to as an alternative to birthday or holiday gifts with your friends or family? Maybe you know someone who could use this, so spread the word or create the page, or even create a page for yourself and make things happen! Join the crowd.
