I talk to my mother every day, but I have not seen her in close to a year. Several years ago, my parents moved to Florida to escape the cold winters and to live closer to my sister and nephews. It turned out, many of their friends moved down there as well, which is great for their social lives. Before my parents moved to Florida, they lived for 7 years in the same town as me and my husband. We used to spend every weekend together.
The last time I saw my parents was in June 2014 when they came up for my daughter’s recital. They could not visit last summer due to prior commitments they had, and my parents won’t come up north during the winters anymore. While technology, like Skype and FaceTime have been very helpful in us having face to face contact, I know this has been hard on my kids because they both are extremely close to their Grandma and Papa.
This is all going to change very soon! In a few short weeks, our entire family will be meeting my parents on our first family Disney World vacation. My children are completely beside themselves. Not only are they going to see their grandparents, but they have no idea what a great time they will have in Disney World. My daughter still can’t grasp the fact we are sleeping there.
I just look forward to hanging out with my parents again. I know I blogged about our relationship the last time I saw them. I look forward to playing cards with them while listening to my husband and father go back and forth about the Yankees vs. Red Sox. There are so many games my children want to play with them as well.
There are so many reasons this vacation will be extra special. The last time my husband and I took a full week off from work was 15 months ago. We are due! Another exciting part of this vacation is my husband and I will both be celebrating our birthdays, which are 4 days apart. I love Disney World and have not been there in 12 years. I also can’t wait to see my children’s reactions to the amazing things they will see!
And, I will finally see my mommy (and daddy)! 🙂
