For years, during the winter, one of my biggest complaints was cold feet. From having to trudge through slush, ice, and snow during my travels of the day, my feet got plenty frosty. Most nights, I was unable to fall asleep quickly due to my feet being too cold.
A couple of years ago, I started to wear Smart Wool socks and Dansko shoes to keep my feet warm when I left my home to battle the elements. I did not mind paying a little more for these products because they were very well made and kept my feet pretty warm and dry.
While it is great I invested in the footwear I wore outside, I did not think about the fact I was wearing cheap bedroom slippers in my home. Earlier this winter, when Emily posted about how much she loved her toddlers’ slippers, I figured it was time to find the best quality slippers for me.
I went on the internet and read reviews on many kinds of house shoes. I wanted shoes with proper foot support because I spend a great deal of time standing as I complete chores around my house. I also wanted shoes I could briefly wear outside if need be.
After days of internet surfing, I decided to buy Ugg slippers. These slippers do not come in half sizes and many of the reviews suggested it was better to go a half-size down. Since I wear a size 9.5 shoe, I decided to buy a size 9 slipper. After a couple of days, my new Uggs arrived. This could not have come at a better time because we were expecting the first (of many) snow storm within a couple of days.
The first time I put my new house shoes on, they felt a little snug, which I expected after reading the reviews. As I wore my new slippers, the more comfortable they got. After hours of standing in the kitchen, I did not have a sore back. I also noticed my feet are not freezing at bedtime anymore. I crawl into bed with warm feet which means I fall asleep an average of 30 minutes earlier than before I bought these slippers. The benefit of extra sleep makes these house shoes worth every penny.
My husband recently bought a pair of Ugg men’s slippers. Unlike me, Jed went up a size. He wears a size 9.5 and ordered a 10. He finds them so comfortable, he often forgets to take them off before we leave the house. As a matter of fact, Jed accidentally wore his house shoes on our last 2 dates.
If cold feet prevent you from falling asleep at night, I would suggest you research good quality house slippers. My husband and I happen to be very happy with our Uggs, and I am sure many of you found your favorite slippers from different manufacturers. While we have no control over how much snow we are going to get each winter, let’s at least make sure we have what we need to keep us warm.
