If you haven’t introduced yourself to the mysterious and sexy world of Mr. Christian Grey, I can’t think of a better time than now! With Valentine’s Day fast approaching and the motion picture debut only days away, NOW is the perfect time to dive headfirst into some playful prose. If you’ve already enlightened your inner goddess, then surely you must agree that reading Fifty Shades of Grey will make your heart beat a little faster. I first started reading the books out of curiosity. Everyone was doing it, everyone was talking about it, and so naturally, I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about.
Here’s what I remember about my first time with Fifty. I was sitting in a medical lab office, quite pregnant and waiting for my glucose screening test. I can remember making my way through one of the many hot and steamy play dates between Christian and Ana and thinking to myself, “should I be reading this here…in this public place?” I am certain I was blushing. I was borderline embarrassed to be reading such erotica but not so much that I put my kindle down and stopped reading. I was intrigued and interested. I guess that is what caught me off guard about Fifty. I’m not into pornography. (Surprising, I know.) I wouldn’t have thought that reading about two people having sex over and over again and again, and again would be something that I would enjoy, but yet I kept going back for more, tackling all three books and wondering…does this crazy shit happen in real life?
Have I told you about the time I found my husband reading my kindle?
Talk about SHOCK AND AWE! “You read this smut?!” He said in excited disbelief. Even he was surprised by E L James’ forwardness and attention to detail. I’m pretty sure he has since learned that my then new literary interest has actually worked to his advantage. I mean, let’s face it. Reading about a young, good looking couple falling in love and having amazing, over-the-top sex is not going to make you want to go home and fake a headache.
Come on ladies who have already read the books, am I right?
You can only read so much of it before you want to shut off the kindle and turn down the sheets.
For most of us busy moms, having ground-shaking sex is not likely to be top on our priority list. We already have kids. We have jobs. We have a gazillion things to do. We are tired. Extremely tired. But before you fall too far into the no-time-for-good-sex-zone, give Fifty a try. You may find yourself digging out that old lingerie and rearranging your priorities. You may find yourself thinking about keeping the “playroom” after the kids go off to college. Who knows? You may even find yourself in Ana’s shoes!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
