The things we have to do as mothers, the laundry list of chores, as well as mastering all the extra events and we just recently added to our list – the Tooth Fairy!
It was an exciting time in our house, the gross-looking tooth hanging in my kid’s mouth like a tic tac, the constant question of, “Is it loose enough yet?”. Then finally – that tiny, dangling, little, tooth fell out!
Then it sinks in – the Tooth Fairy is coming! That’s my cue! Time to secretly exchange the tooth for the money while my son sleeps. I wasn’t excited to do the tooth fairy thing because it makes me nervous. I can totally see myself falling asleep and forgetting! Only to wake in the middle of the night, struck with panic, searching the house for dollar bills or what ever it is the tooth fairy can come up with. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I made it special, and my son was beyond pleased when he woke up.
But I just have to ask – DO you keep the tooth? I did, but when I opened the little jar to put it in, I was thinking it was rather gross to save it. I also thought it was a good move to save their umbilical cords. Then one day, I pulled out the memory box, and I couldn’t stand to keep the cords any longer, all shriveled up and looking like a dried up poop nugget. So I can only imagine how I’ll feel in a few years, and how turned off I will be about all their teeth!
Do the math – three kids, twenty teeth each, that is like 60 freaking teeth!
So, I ask my fellow mothers for their insight on this matter. Again, don’t get me wrong, I love my kids! I made those teeth! But should I really save them?
