Last year, I spent the winter season nurturing my body and creating a safe home for my little baby, which left me S.O.L for winter sports. I am a lover of many winter sports – hockey, ice skating, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, and most of all, down hill skiing.
Sitting out wasn’t easy for me to do! I would watch in envy as others got to whip down the hill and fly off the jump while I spent the afternoon sledding. I did go ice fishing one afternoon, but if you have ever been, you know it is a lot more fun when you can drink and rip snowmobiles around the lake all afternoon, or be pulled behind on a snow tube. I got to watch the ski reports on the news and hear how great the conditions were. Sitting out left me to endure the long winter months inside, lonely under challenged, and craving a rush of adrenaline!
I couldn’t wait to get out and play in the snow and on the ice this year. I have already spent multiple afternoons barrel rolling and sledding down the hill. I have already contacted the local cross-country ski area to see when they will host their moon light ski evenings. I got to enjoy a few fast rides around the property on our snowmobile, and this past Friday (with the temps in the single digits) I was able to grab my ski buddy and get on the slopes! It was freezing, but it is felt so great to hear the snow under my skis, and to feel the cold wind on my cheeks. I love the feeling of gliding down the hill side, the speed and the amazing sense of control you have over your body as I gracefully navigate down the trail.
When I started this blog back in November of last year, I had shared my goal of beginning on a down hill race team, however it may not happen this year or any year. Regardless, I’m on my own team and that team is built on passion, dedication, and motivation to live longer, be stronger and use my body to its fullest abilities until it can’t be pushed any further. So even if the dark clouds, or the cold winds have you down, remember to get up and get outside! There are lots of things you can do in the snow, and I’m always looking for more friends to play with!
Next weekend, I’d like to take Dylan and Wesley skiing – let me know if you would like to join us outside and get your winter games on! I also hope to spend an evening cross-country skiing under the moon light, it is so peaceful and rejuvenating! If you have never been on skis, don’t wait any longer! You don’t know what you’re missing, the calories that you burn are insane, and its fun and easy!
I look forward to seeing you on the trails!
