It’s kind of hard to believe that it is 2015 already but here we are. I have an almost 6 year old, a 4 year old and a 2 year old who are KIDS, not babies anymore! Where does the time go?
Twenty Fifteen will be my second full year as a runner. About half way through 2013 I began to run regularly for exercise (with a little help from my friend Sarah). I ran a 5K, a 20K, and finished my first half marathon and I caught the race bug. Prior to that, I had dabbled with a 5K here and there but wouldn’t have called myself a runner.
What is the race bug?
You would know if you have it. Symptoms may include medals hanging on your wall, Gu in your cabinets and glove compartment, sporty knee socks in your drawers in multiple colors and designs, race swag strewn about your house, technical tees cramping up your dresser, running playlists on your phone and an overwhelming itch to register for your next race before or during your current race. You may be registered for more than one future race at any given time or at the very least, you are thinking about what races you will run in the future. You travel to run races. You have a “Race Schedule” that you work hard to coordinate with your family’s schedule and social calendar. Basically, you’re nuts about running races… and you can’t stop (but that’s ok because you don’t want to and running is good for you!)
Here’s a sure sign that I’ve caught the bug:
There are worse bugs to catch but the worst thing about the race bug is the expense! Race registrations are not cheap by any means. This year, I have decided to take advantage of early registration discounts. I am already registered for half marathons in January, February, April, May, July and September with more to come. That’s a whole lotta halfs!
In 2014, I finished my first full marathon so it wasn’t easy to think of a new running goal for 2015. What I’ve come up with is to run as many half marathons as I can fit in to my family’s busy schedule. Twelve is the number I have in mind but we will see. I know what you are thinking, I must be half crazy!
Has anyone else caught the race bug? I’d love to hear what you have on your 2015 race schedule!
