Every other year, some girlfriends and I plan a big overnight to celebrate the holidays. This has meant party buses and VIP dancing in the past, but this year we went a little more low key. Other than the fact our two conjoined hotel rooms were at Foxwoods Casino, we went old school. We each brought food and some drinks, we went bowling, and we even played a late night game of Cards Against Humanity.
What I loved so much about this year’s celebration was this particular group of women; there was a real sense of belonging. Some have tiny babies, some have girls, some have boys, and one has none. Some grew up in Connecticut, some like Grateful Dead, and some can recite the lyrics to any hip-hop song ever written. There was no cattiness, no drama, just a group of people who respected each other and enjoyed each other’s company…and laughed, a lot.
So I guess I’m sharing this for two reasons: One, because it’s easy to forget about the simple ways to enjoy this hectic season. Whether it’s a game of cards, chatting over sandwiches, sipping from red Solo cups, or showing off your moves at your local Rock n’ Bowl…do it. Enjoy being silly with your old friends, and take in the new girl while you share a good laugh.
And two, I want to tell these beautiful people how much fun I had this weekend. I love you and thank you all for a true celebration of the holiday spirit. xoxo
