Smile and be kind everyday. I think this a simple request to ask of mankind. Last week, I had a conversation with an acquaintance that goes hand in hand with this request. He told me he can only control what he can control. I cannot control what is happening with terrorism in the world. I cannot control people being killed for no apparent reason. I CAN control my smile and how I treat others.
With the second anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook approaching, I challenge everyone to perform random acts of kindness. Do you remember how prevalent this was right after that terrible event. It was one uplifting piece of news amongst all of the other horrible stories. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, you heard about these acts less and less. Probably not because they stopped occurring but because they weren’t news anymore. I would love for the good stuff to become news again.
Too often in our busy lives, we move on and forget about others when it is not news anymore. In order to remember those who were lost and try to put some good back in this world, I challenge you to perform a random act of kindness starting today. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the act is. What matters is that you took the time out of your busy life to do something nice for another human being and you don’t expect anything in return.
If we all start acting like this everyday, this will be the news of the day and the world will be a better place.
If you need some ideas, there are many. Here is one that is appropriate for this time of year. I would love to hear your ideas or how you shared your kindness with the world.
