Every now and again we get a reminder not to take things for granted. It was around midnight last night when I got a call from my husband, who opened with, “I’m okay, but I’m pretty sure my car is totaled. I’m waiting for the tow truck. Can you come pick me up?”
When my heart re-started, I heard him say he had headed home a day early to surprise me. Sleepy, but so full of adrenalin my hands were shaking, I headed out in the misting rain to pick him up. You may be wondering how far I had to head at that hour. Not far! He was about 4 minutes from our house when his car spun out of control. He was going the speed limit (30 mph) and braked gently on a downgrade. His car skidded, jumped the curb and sailed between two large trees — one of which crushed the front right quarter of his car. Oh yeah, the front bumper and underside of the car is toast, as well. He was going so slow, and had so little “impact” his airbag didn’t even inflate! I should note that while the photo above is not his car (nor the make or model) the damage is remarkably similar.
Thank goodness it is just a car to replace. People you love are irreplaceable. Give yours a hug today.
