Tomorrow we celebrate Landon’s 2nd birthday! This post is dedicated to him…
When I think back on September 24, 2012, I feel such an intense mix of emotions. An unexpected c-section, the use of a vacuum, and the fact that I sat in a recovery room alone for 4 hours before I could hold you, were not things I had envisioned for the day of your birth. But, I will never ever forget the moment I was able to finally hold you – I was so overcome with tears and couldn’t stop thinking how perfect you were! In that moment, my life changed forever.
For most of your first year, we were completely inseparable. As an infant you knew exactly what you wanted and what you didn’t, and usually, the only thing you wanted was me! In some ways, this is still true. Our mornings begin with a snuggle in bed as you have milk and I have coffee while we watch a cartoon, and our evenings end with a snuggle on the couch as we read books. At two, you still need a little rocking from me to drift to sleep, and I cherish this time together more than anything else.
Recently, your teacher asked me to describe you using only 3 words. I quickly replied, “energetic, excited and musical.” These three words certainly describe your current personality, which has evolved dramatically from a once timid and over-stimulated little baby. Although, I probably should have added silly as you make me smile and laugh every single day. And talkative…you are so talkative. As soon as you found your voice, your vocabulary expanded and you like to let everyone know what you are thinking or observing at all times. All things I love about you, all things I hope you will hold onto.
I had so much fun celebrating your birthday this year in true Dr. Suess style! On that note, I will end with two of my favorite Dr. Suess quotes that are just for you…Happy Birthday my sweet love!
