It’s amazing how strong we all can be as a nation. It’s so remarkable to see children and adults supporting organizations in need.
I am watching all of these people complete the ice bucket challenge- I love signing up and being a part of a run or walk for a charity event, it is such a wonderful feeling to share in a positive movement.
There are organization all across the world in need of our donations. They are “challenged” everyday to keep their doors open, to make room to fund more patients, to fund more research, to purchase more equipment. I understand this “challenge” is to raise awareness, however please be sure to educate yourself on this organization. They can use more than just a run of cold water for the month.
I applaud all of those who have accepted the “challenge”, however remember why you accepted the challenge. Our loved ones who fall ill from disease didn’t ask to be challenged- they didn’t get a chance to pay off the illness, they don’t always get to laugh when their treatments and procedures are over. It’s important to step outside the “craze” and donate at all times, not just because everyone else is doing it.
When I support a charity, I do it because it makes me feel good- because it is important to me, because I’m aware that my efforts are part of a change. When accepting this “challenge”, please remember you’re not looking for recognition, and recognize that the rewards come from within.
I challenge you to be a little more aware every day, from remembering not to leave a human being in a hot car, to holding the door for the elderly, to donating a dollar at the check out line, to looking twice when pulling out of our driveways, to sharing food with the local food pantry, to turning water off when not using it, to remembering our reusable bags on shopping day…this list is a small reminder of how strong small steps can be for a large nation.
You’ve just been challenged to be more aware!
