RACE: Hyannis Marathon Team Relay
LOCATION: Hyannis, Massachusetts
DATE: Sunday, February 23, 2014
LENGTH: 6.1 or 7 Miles
RUNIT RATING: Thumbs up!
What an amazing day for a marathon!!Thousands of marathoners convened on Hyannis, Massachusetts for the Hyannis Marathon. The day could not have been better. It was nearly 45 degrees, and when you consider the 15 to 20 degrees you should add-on to the temperature while running, conditions were almost perfect. The Hyannis Marathon features the Team Relay, which we participated in, the full 26.2 mile marathon, and the half 13.1 mile marathon. The full marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, so it draws quite a registration volume.
Our relay team consisted of three Runitlikeamom bloggers Patty, Sarah and Saisha with the help of Marcy, a close friend. Patty took on the first leg of the relay, 7 miles, which was completed with this baton hand off to Marcy, who ran the second leg of 6.1 miles.
Marcy then handed off to Sarah who ran the second 7 mile stretch. I did the final leg of the marathon. Something I did not take into consideration was all the waiting that goes along with a Team Relay, but look at this view! One could not ask for something better to be stationed in front of.
My relay leg went great, the crowds that gathered to cheer on the marathoners were a welcomed motivator. The sight of the finish line was one of such relief and achievement. The Hyannis Marathon was a great experience, definitely fun was had by all. Also working as a team in this relay brought me back to high school sports; we had a game plan, we cheered each other on working toward a mutual goal and we accomplished it!
What a great experience, I highly suggest doing a Team Relay, it is a great way to Runit (likeamom)!
Here is our finish line picture:)
